The Macrocosm
The Macrocosm, a single work made up of five separate gesso panels of equal size. The imagery draws from a fascination for ancient alchemical diagrams, particularly the work of the 15th Century alchemist Robert Fludd, who made a series of etchings on the subject. There appeared a surprising correlation between his drawings and contemporary accounts of the origins of the universe or the Big Bang. These panels are an amalgamation of the two subjects, a visual soup of Robert Fludds alchemical studies, modern astro physics and my own contemplation on the subject. They tell the story of Great Darkness before the beginning of time through to the emergence of The Central Sun where, according to modern physics, the universe had cooled enough for electrons and photons to form the first atoms, sometimes known as the Recombination Era.
