Remains of the Silver Screen
Remains of the Silver Screen is a new series of work concerned with the process of creating new narratives, characters and histories from the visual and cultural debris of the past.
The imagery has been recovered from a lost archive of original photographs and ephemera documenting film production of British Cinema from the 1930s and 40s. With careful re-presentation, these glimpses of past creative endeavours begin to take on new life, whilst playing with notions of truth, fiction, reality, lost stories and imagined new ones.
Using an experimental digital print technique, the images are transferred onto salvaged plywood prepared with a traditional gesso ground.
